Ralph Highnam

Ralph, a founding director of VHT, has been at the forefront of the digital breast imaging field for over 25 years. Initially a research scientist at the University of Oxford, Ralph’s innovative work in quantitative breast imaging technology led him to form first OXIVA Limited and then Mirada Solutions with Professor Sir John Mike Brady. Under Ralph’s leadership Mirada became the number-one provider of image registration and fusion tools before being acquired by CTI Molecular Imaging Inc. and later Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.

Before founding VHT in 2009, Ralph consulted for many of the world’s top medical imaging companies, including R2, Siemens, Hologic and Dexela, as well as many leading breast screening programs. During this time, he continued his academic research as part of an international circle of collaborators.

Ralph is the author of numerous articles and, with Brady, the seminal book Mammographic Image Analysis. As CEO of VHT, Ralph is dedicated to providing the most accurate measurements possible of breast composition (“breast density”) in order to improve the health outcomes of women around the world. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2015 he was named a Wellingtonian of the Year finalist.

Katherine Singson

Katherine is an international business executive with more than 30-years of experience at start-ups, turnarounds and multinationals. She began her career in Silicon Valley at an artificial intelligence start-up, then went on to work with iconic technology companies including NeXT/Apple, Pixar and Microsoft. Her career is defined by entrepreneurship, cultural exchange and how innovation can enhance lives.

As a marketer, Katherine worked directly for Steve Jobs at all three of his companies, starting with the transformation of NeXT Computer from a hardware to a software business. Their strategic acquisition by Apple ignited the remarkable turnaround that is well known today. On the success of Toy Story, Jobs recruited Katherine to build the marketing and publicity department at Pixar Animation Studios. There she launched a rare 50/50 co-marketing agreement with The Walt Disney Co., critical groundwork for a powerful partnership that drove the commercial success of future blockbusters.

After a stint in Italy, Katherine joined Microsoft ANZ (Australia & New Zealand). As part of their leadership team for the Entertainment & Devices Division, she held responsibility for consumer marketing of Xbox and Windows.

Katherine has a passion for deeply humanistic, emotionally-connected and elegant product development that respects, informs and inspires. Currently based in Silicon Valley, she is dedicated to helping change the future of breast cancer.

Craig brings over nine years’ experience in senior and managerial auditing roles at large accounting firms including EY and Deloitte. He was most recently an Associate Director for Deloitte Wellington and was the Audit Manager for VHT during the IPO process. Previously, he held roles internationally, including in the US, South Africa, New Zealand, and the Bahamas.

Craig is a registered member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and an affiliate of NZICA (CAANZ). He is based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Mark is an experienced executive well-practiced in developing and implementing organisational goals, guiding the optimisation of systems and processes to facilitate those goals, and putting the right people in the right positions to achieve them. Maintaining a healthy balance between all of the stakeholders in an organisation, including customers, shareholders and team members, has been achieved by Mark’s building of a strong corporate culture based upon mutual respect, full effort and personal responsibility.

Mark joined VHT when the company acquired MRS Systems, Inc in July 2019 where he was CEO for 12 years. He is based in Seattle, Washington.

Simon is an experienced strategy, operations and business transformation professional. Simon joins VHT after almost 8 years at the professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where he was a Director in their Technology Consulting practice.

Simon’s PwC client work involved leading large delivery teams and advising executives on software development, service management, portfolio management, cost optimisation and business transformation engagements in both the public and private sectors. Internally he was part of the leadership team which created their Strategy, Architecture and IT Service Management optimisation business.

Simon brings recent relevant experience in defining unique “as-a-Service” models for government, leading large delivery teams, working in heavy regulatory and compliance environments and focusing on organisation capability uplift programmes.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Computer Systems Engineering as well as undertaking extensive professional training. He also holds practitioner certifications in project management and enterprise architecture. He is based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Kathryn is a passionate global HR leader who is focused on delivering an outstanding experience across the employee life cycle. She has a particular interest in the development and delivery of best practice remuneration initiatives system implementations and process improvement. This has led to her involvement in the professional association for remuneration professionals, having held the positions of Chairperson and Treasurer of the New Zealand Remuneration Network (RemNet).

During her career Kathryn has worked in both specialist remuneration and generalist HR roles across software, FMCG, manufacturing and healthcare industries. Kathryn is based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Dr Monica Saini

Monica joined the VHT Board in 2018. She is an internationally recognised expert in breast cancer, especially breast density and breast cancer risk assessment.

Monica is a Doctor of Medicine and a prior BSc in nursing. She has had U.S. radiology training and an additional fellowship in women’s imaging. She has over 10 years of patient care experience and was the Chief of Breast Imaging at Santa Fe Imaging/Christus St Vincent Hospital in the southwestern U.S. from 2008 to 2016. She also served as the chairman for the Christus St Vincent Cancer Committee.

In 2015, she became a medical advisor for GE Healthcare and consultant for ProScan Imaging, as well as research advisor for World Care Clinical. By 2016, she was appointed Medical Director of Automated Breast Ultrasound Systems, GE Healthcare. Globally, she worked on early detection of breast cancer, breast cancer research, and international physician education for breast imaging technologies.

Monica relocated to New Zealand in 2017 and started as a consultant for VHT where she implements hands-on expertise in product development, research, and customer relations. She also evaluates patients as a lead radiologist at Hutt Valley District Health Board in Wellington.

David has nearly 30 years of sales experience in the medical imaging field, specifically in breast imaging and channel sales.

Before joining VHT’s management team in 2012, David served as Vice President of Channel Sales for Carestream Health, where he was responsible for channel sales for digital imaging equipment and x-ray film in the US. Previously, he held sales positions with Fuji Medical Systems USA and R2 Technology, the breast computer-aided detection company. He is based in Rochester, New York.

Penelope Gibson

Penelope is an expert in intellectual property law and practice. She qualified after working as a technical author and translator (electronics) and business development manager (appraising technology and intellectual property in Eastern Europe), and as director in the UK's largest independent intellectual property rights management group, pioneers of new models for monetarisation of intellectual property.

Since 2003, Penelope has worked with high-growth technology companies, research organisations and investors in Europe, the US, Russia, China, Australia and New Zealand, advising on cost-effective protection and use of intellectual property for international growth.

Penelope has been listed among the world's top strategists (IAM) and her work has been cited by the UK government as “best practice” (Gowers Review). She has been a regular speaker at APEC forums, has advised governments and national patent offices on intellectual property policy and her materials are used in universities in the US and China. Her professional memberships include Licensing Executive Society International, Chartered Institute of Linguists (for technical Russian) and the Royal Society (New Zealand). Penelope has consulted for VHT since 2009. She is based in Bordeaux, France.

Richard has over 30 years’ experience working in software product development in the hi-tech sector; most notably with Imagination Technologies, a UK based company that pioneered the PowerVR 3D graphics technology, adopted by global companies such as Compaq, NEC, Sega and Apple. During his time at Imagination, Richard held the roles of VP Software Engineering for PowerVR and Senior Director for Imagination’s cloud-based SaaS products and services.

Richard is used to working with technology companies that are transitioning from startup to growth mode. He is based in Wellington, New Zealand.
